Oh what the fuck? If I wore tight pants, you wouldn't be listening to this song?

Photobucket

..This line from "Just Rock" might be changed from "tight pants" to "baggy pants" if it was released in the 2008. Almost ten years later, trends have changed in both punk rock and fashion, but this third album from Tokyo, Japan's Hi-STANDARD still sounds fuckin' killer. In my humble opinion, this album is their most diverse in style (and a personal favorite), ranging from melodic punk rock that they are known for (Standing Still, Stay Gold) to fierce fast hardcore (Just Rock, Making the Road Blues, Crows) to goofy ukulele tune (Sexy Girlfriend). It was their lastest LP to date and fans (like myself) are still hoping for they to come back together and put a smile on our faces once again.

By the way, this is the US release on Fat Wreck Chords, which left out the songs "Lift Me Up, Don't Bring Me Down" and "Mosh Under The Rainbow" and replaced with hardcore number "Crows". I have the Japanese version of the album which have those two songs at home in Thailand; and will share it with you when I get back there on December.. So keep your eyes peeled.

Pay no more than dirt cheap

It don't get OGer than this, Punk-O-Rama compilation from LA's Epitaph records. I got this on tape from around 1996 because it got Offspring's logo is on it. You know how it started for punk kids from that era: you saw Green Day on MTV, you loved them, read about them in magazine (in my case, Thailand's Crossroads & Music Express) where they talked about other bands like Offspring, you went out and buy Offspring's records, you discovered more cool bands from the same label, and on and on.. Back then Sony music distributed Epitaph's releases in Thailand and I believe this release changed many local kids' life forever. At that time most of us don't have computer, let alone internet so we don't have any information about the bands and all we can do is looking at the 1x1 cm. band photos in the sleeves and wondering how would they look and sound live. 12 years something later everyone are equipped with internet and endless information and I'm grateful for it.. Hold up this is started to sound too cheeesy, so yeah - this is a classic punk rock compilation from the mid 90's that you love, I love and your girlfriend's sister loves. 16 cuts and 2 rare songs from Offspring and Rancid can't go wrong. Get the files, buy the record, tap your feet to it and have an ace time.

On the side note: The other Epitaph releases in Thailand from that era are Rancid's Let's Go and ..And Out Come The Wolves, Offspring's Ignition and Smash, L7's L7 and Bad Religion's All Age, 80-85, Against The Grain and Recipe For Hate. Most of them are available in cassette format by Sony Music, so if you're in Thailand and into collecting tapes be sure to hunt them down at used music shops as they'd pop up every once in a while.

Enjoy.

Fool I got them bomb-ass tapes..

Comin' from the Westside.. That's right, Ice Cube, one of Westcoast's finest MCs. This is the single from Lethal Injection, which is a classic G-funk track with swangin' basslines (sampled from the intro of "The Show Is Over" by Evelyn 'Champagne' King) and whiny synthesizer that's loved by them Gs, pimps and hustlers worldwide. I got this single from a local used record shop and this cut is still relatively easy to buy from websites like Amazon and the likes. A lil' classic for you to bump this summer, definitely pick this up y'all.

This is the hardcore-punk EP from the Beasties. You heard one of the songs here; "Nervous Assisstant" from the Bored Generation compilation that I posted a while ago, here's the full album with a Japanese release bonus track. Nuttin' but old school steez! This album is still easy to find in both record shops and internet stores, so if you love raw hardcore punk just buy it, or easier than that, steal from your friend who owns it. Sweet.

All day every day I don't give a..

Photobucket

I found out about this band while buying a Pennywise t-shirt from Interpunk. Long Beach's All Day is a band playing fast, raw punk rock that makes you want to skate barefoot, sippin' on a 40, thrashin' some Chinese buffets and whatnots. This 1996 release features Randy of Pennywise on guitar and the logo was designed by Opie Ortiz who did many artworks for Sublime. If punk rock is your thang, listen
to this and make your ears happy.

I got a thing, you got a thing, everybody's got a thing

..That's right, Airwalk. You used to own a pair, your homeboy used to own a pair, I still do. Here in England (I'm here to study) you can find a new pair of Airwalk One every now and then in TK Maxx for 16.99 quid. However if you can't find one in your country you can still enjoy a rare 1995 promo footage of Jason Lee, a rare 1996 promo footage of Andrew Reynolds, Tony Hawk and Geoff Rowley, and reminiscing the good ol' days from this here Airwalk compilation I got from Ebay a while ago. It contains many alternative bands who were popular at that time.. Another rare and cool CD to add to your 90's collection.

2 South Cali's legends, back-to-back...

Photobucket

Today I'll post the works from two notorious California groups who need no introduction, DFL (Dead Fucking Last) and Sublime. The first is DFL's first album; My Crazy Life on Grand Royal records. This album got Beastie Boy's Ad Rock as a bass player. It is long out of print, but as usual you can get used copies from Ebay (Where I got both vinyl and CD version from.. Yesss!) and Amazon (My recommendation is that if possible, buy from those sellers selling 'factory sealed' items cos most DFL releases come with a DFL logo sticker). If you like raw, short hardcore, simply pick this lil' baby up. The other post is from Sublime, and since everyone and their liquor store owner are posting all of their studio albums; I'll post a dope bootleg from them instead. It's called Bums Lie, which got some radio appearances and many cool rare tracks.

Let's go punk rockers!

Hi! Now you're kickin' it with the Stuck-N-The-Past blog, the blog that shares with you those old punk/ska/hip-hop/etc. records from the 90's and whatnots, for the reminiscing purpose.. So enjoy and support the artist by buying the CDs/records/tapes if you like what you hear. And if you are the owner to the rights of any music posted here and wanted the them to be deleted, just contact me and I'll have them taken off.

I'll start the blog with the compilation called Bored Generation, from Epitaph records in 1996. It is a nice little skate/surf/snow comp. full of crazy Epitaph punk bands (featured a rare Circle Jerk cover by Pennywise) and other popular acts from the likes of Primus, Beastie Boys to Souls of Mischeif, accompanied by nice artwork by Dave Leamon and other cool extreme sports photos in the sleeves. I got the same artwork on my old Mossimo t-shirt from around 1998 in Thailand, which sure be a bootlegged one but oh well. This CD is now out of print but you can still find second hand copies from websites like Amazon (where I got mine from) and Ebay.
